What does a Chiropractor do?
The doctor will begin by taking a health history that helps to identify if your condition is related to spinal nerve stress. A thorough physical examination will be performed that includes orthopedic, neurological, and range of motion tests. In addition, a complete chiropractic exam may include x-rays to uncover structural problems affecting your treatment and outcome. Once these tests are reviewed, Dr. Couture will explain the results and recommend a personalized plan of care that will include gentle chiropractic adjustments.

What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
The adjustment is a gentle procedure used to restore normal movement and position to the spinal joints, which ultimately relieves pain and improves the bodies' ability to heal itself. There are many ways to adjust the spine ranging from a quick thrusting motion to a slow, constant pressure. By using a variety of techniques, Dr. Couture can safely treat all ages of patients from infants to the elderly.

What type of education and training do Doctors of Chiropractic receive?
Upon completing undergraduate studies, a chiropractor is required to take an additional four-year course of study including anatomy, neurology, physiology, pathology, x-ray interpretation, and spinal adjusting. The doctor is required to take the National Board Examination and a rigorous state licensing examination before gaining the right to practice chiropractic. While in practice, a doctor takes continuing education in order to stay current on the latest technology and scientific research.

What are common conditions that Chiropractic treats?
A majority of people seek care for treatment of pain related issues such as lower back pain, sciatica, neck pain, headaches, joint pain, and sports related injuries. Chiropractic is used to achieve better health by removing spinal nerve stress and restoring body mechanics.

Is Chiropractic Care safe?
Chiropractic treatment has proven safer than taking aspirin, ibuprofen, muscle relaxers and other pain relief drugs. Chiropractic has also has been shown in scientific studies, to be more effective than physical therapy and surgery at relieving pain. Today's chiropractor offers symptom resolution by addressing the cause, with little or no side effects.
